The session started with some brainstorming and discussion about the causes of stress…the pressures teenagers face inluding things like the need to look a certain way, domestic duties, exams etc. To expand on this everyone took part in a role play activity which highlighted how we deal with these daily pressures, either by ‘reacting’ or ‘responding’. In their groups, the girls presented a range of situations which led to discussion about how to take control.
After a break for snacks we explored unhealthy habits like smoking and bad diet during stressful periods and how to avoid such behaviour. Through reflections of teachings from the Quran the girls learnt why it is best we turn to Allah for help especially through times of hardship.
Lastly, the girls took part in a competition allowing them to try a range of breathing techniques and relaxation methods which rounded off the session nicely.
