With UCAS submission dates for medicine fast approaching, we would like to invite you to attend Med Success 2017, a one-day preparatory seminar to equip you with the best skills and knowledge in generating a successful application to medical school.

We will be running the 8th annual Med-Success event at the University of Leicester on Saturday 30th September. This is a whole day event running from 8:30am to 5pm, delivered by doctors and supported by senior medical students.

Empower Youth Academy is a local voluntary charity set up in 2010 by a group of professionals with a passion for teaching. We work with children from all backgrounds to give them the same educational and aspirational opportunities as any other child in their age group.

In keeping with our aim of equalising opportunities for all students, we are offering all of the above (yes, and more!) for a small sum of £20, which is truly dwarfed by the gargantuan fees charged by similar programs run in other parts of the country. This is further discounted to £15, if an application is made (including payment) before 1st September 2017.

  • Participation in a full set of multiple-mini interview stations with feedback from a panel of current doctors and senior medical students who have conducted real university admission interviews
  •  A one-to-one personal statement workshop with current medical students and doctors, to help students plan their first drafts or optimise their final statements, and help their application really stand out to the medical schools they apply to
  • Excellent talks during the day on:
    • Writing a winning personal statement
    • Approaching common and different interview scenarios, delivered by doctors who have been on admissions interview panel
    • Medical ethics; giving students an interactive taster into what can be a challenging subject, and how in particular, to tackle tricky interview questions around it
    • Life as a medical student and doctor; an interactive panel session letting students find out what life in medical school and beyond can be like, and helping them reaffirm that medicine is the university degree and career for them
    • Emergency care taster; giving students a brief taster session into assessing unwell individuals, as well as basic life support, and designed to give an idea of what sessions at medical school can be like
  • Numerous doctors and senior students from the Med Success Team will also be on hand during the day to answer any specific or other questions from students regarding medical school, careers in medicine and the application process.

Location: Attenborough Building, University of Leicester Date and Time: Saturday 30th September, 8:30-17:00 Cost: £20 per student, discounted to £15 if application made (including payment) before September 1st 2017.
